Sappho at Leucate, 1801

According to a legend started by Athenian playwright Menander, Sappho committed suicide by leaping from the Leucadian cliffs over the unrequited love of ferryman Phaeon. This is not considered credible by historians.

  2. Excellent Anna,
Antoine Jean Gros was a great Romantic artist who followed the Neo Classicists of the Jacques Louis David school. Thanks for posting the Image.
